No GUI. No Manual Coding. Tableau to Power BI in 10 Minutes? I just ran a crazy experiment.

If I told you I could migrate a complex Tableau dashboard (specifically Louis Phipps' incredible Superstore VOTD) into Power BI without ever opening Power BI Desktop or writing a single line of code myself, would you believe me?

I just put Gemini CLI to the ultimate test.

The results were shocking. In under 10 minutes, the AI completed over 50% of the migration work?from establishing data connections and building the semantic model to reconstructing the visualization layout.

This wasn't just visual recognition. This was a complete Code-First Reconstruction.

How does it work? We bypassed the traditional "drag-and-drop" method entirely. By leveraging the Power BI Project (PBIP) format, I guided Gemini to generate the actual "DNA" (after read my guide document comparison_analysis.md) of the report directly:

Reverse Engineering: Parsing the Tableau XML structure to understand business logic.

Scaffolding: Automatically generating the PBIP directory hierarchy.

Semantic Modeling: Writing TMDL and M queries from scratch to handle data connections and DAX measures.

Pixel-Perfect Layout: Generating Visual JSON files to map coordinates and chart types.

The AI even detected its own schema validation errors and debugged the code in real-time.

? Want to see exactly how I did it?

I am thrilled to announce that I will be sharing the stage with the legendary Andy Cotgreave at the upcoming Tableau User Group (TUG) on December 4th!

I will be doing a live breakdown of this experiment, showing you:

How to structure Prompts that teach AI the underlying logic of BI tools.

The Iteration & Debugging loop: How to guide the AI when it inevitably breaks things.

How "Code-First" or "AI-First" thinking is revolutionizing dashboard migration and development.
