Manually recreating complex dashboard container structures is one of the most tedious tasks in BI development. To solve this, I’ve launched a new tool: the Tableau Layout Extractor.
This tool is now available on datacooper, my personal brand website dedicated to providing online tools that automate repetitive and time-consuming data tasks.
How it works:
The web interface on datacooper serves as a user-friendly gateway that calls the core technical capabilities of cwtwb—the open-source library I developed for Tableau automation. It allows you to:
Extract Instantly: Upload a .twb or .twbx and get a clean structural template (containers, text, and empty objects) with all charts and data sources removed.
Reuse & Scale: Save the layout as a JSON file to be called later via cwtwb or shared with your team as a blueprint for new projects.
Filter with Precision: Extract specific dashboards by name instead of the entire workbook.
Privacy & Security:
Data privacy is a priority. The datacooper platform does not store any user data. Files are processed in real-time to generate your template and are not retained on our servers.
The mission of datacooper is to continue bridging the gap between complex manual work and automated efficiency.
Note: Currently, the extractor supports tiled layouts; support for floating objects is in development.
Try it out and let me know how it speeds up your workflow!
